HOW DO YOU ADJUST A DAMPER?
It is often necessary to adjust your damper at the track on test days. Weather and track conditions can mean that several adjustments may need to be made throughout the day.
It is important to adjust your shock absorber for the right setting. Learn the steps on how to adjust your shock absorber.
This video will show you exactly what needs to be done to the damper to make these changes.
How do you adjust a damper?
Patrick from Quantum Racing will be taking us through the process of how to adjust your damper.
First, you need to be familiar with the parts that make up the damper, there is:
a) a bearing cap,
b) a damper lever,
c) a bump rubber,
d) the eyelet base,
e) the eyelet,
f) the adjuster.
2. Now how do you adjust a damper? The damper being used is the One-Zero. It’s got a range of 24 clicks ranging from full stiff to full soft.
3. At Quantum, we always recommend making all damper adjustments from the full stiff position, which is all the way clockwise.
4. If you want to put the damper on a -6 position, we’ll need to shift 6 clicks from the full stiff position, this is a small adjustment.
5. Some dampers have more than 24 clicks; however, there is no need to go past 24 as the linearity of the needle is very poor, and the change in flow rate is minimal.
What is the function of dampers?
Shock absorbers are essentially timing devices. They are unable to support the weight of a vehicle alone but influence how quickly the vehicle settles on its springs.
Hydraulic Shock absorbers are velocity sensitive. The force with which they resist movement varies with velocity. How this force varies is entirely dependent upon the configuration of the shock absorber.
